Eliminating Bad Habits

All of us at NCG, Inc would like to wish you a happy, healthy and successful New Year!  Part of ensuring a successful new year is setting goals that contribute to a rewarding lifestyle.
Another key factor in setting yourself up for success is eliminating the things that aren’t supporting your growth. Kicking bad habits is much easier said than done, but with the right strategy, it is achievable!
1. Define the behavior. First things first. As obvious as it sounds, you need to clearly define the behavior you want to eliminate. If you’re serious about changing, don’t beat around the bush or be flimsy with your goal. Get serious, define it clearly and write down what you want to change.
2.  Reflect upon how it affects you. This part is important. If you don’t take the time to really think about how this habit is negatively impacting your life, you will quickly lose the willpower to fight the behavior. Better yet, write it down. Depending on the habit, this part can get difficult, but it’s important to face the facts. Think about how it’s affecting each and every aspect of your life.
3. Identify triggers. Each of our negative behaviors come with their own sets of triggers. Some, we may be aware of, while others, we may be completely blind to. It’s imperative to make yours known if you want to stop a habit. You’ll have to avoid these triggers at first in order to ensure your success.
4. Replace the behavior. When you get rid of a habit, you’re going to have an empty space that needs filling. Replace bad habits with healthy, positive behaviors. This will keep you from falling back to old patterns and add value to your life!
